Spiritual Tidbits & Rector’s Reflections for
June 2021 from Father Tim

June 2021 arrives with the Trinity Season already underway. The month of June includes Corpus Christi (3rd), Sacred Heart of Jesus (11th), Saint Barnabus, Apostle and Martyr (12th), Nativity, Saint John Baptist (24th) and Saint Peter, Apostle and Martyr (29th). The Sundays after Trinity are a season of instruction and discipline, complementing and including the implications of the historic revelation of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As Christians (read this part slowly and attentively) during the remainder of the year let us not consider so much what we are to do as what we are; we should be good and all our ways and endeavors will be lights for those in darkness. Simply put, we must choose to allow the Trinity to be revealed within us. Saintliness does not come from our works, but rather from what one is. Our everyday deeds will never make us holy, but we can make them holy. No matter how dedicated or sacred a pursuit may be, and we may be called to few or many, those particular pursuits have no power to sanctify; but rather as we are and have the Holy Trinity within, we bless each daily work or deed we do. Thus our emphasis should hinge on being good, and not on the numerous or types of things we may be called to do. This June, let us choose being goodness everywhere, at all times, among our friends and neighbors, strangers and travelers, just as we are while attending reverently at Saint John’s. ~ Father Tim

Is there someone you know who is in need of blessings? Are they lost in a world of constantly chasing fulfillment in all the wrong works and pursuits? June is a wonderful month to invite someone into the Holy Church to receive instruction and blessings from the Holy Trinity. The revelation of the Triune God this holy season may be a life changing moment for a lost soul who seeks both enlightenment and discipline. ~ Father Tim

Did you know?

Did you know that Saint John’s charitable donations to local worthy causes are already up twenty two percent over 2020 just 5 months into the year? And we still have seven months remaining! Did you know our website has been reconstructed? Did you know that major window repair is going on right now at Saint John’s? Did you know a slow but steady renovation of the downstairs continues at Saint John’s?

A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, “You are mad; you are not like us. ~ S. Anthony, Confessor, feast day 13th of June

It is not he who begins well who is perfect. It is he who ends well who is approved in God’s sight. . .

When someone steals another’s clothes, we call them a thief. Should we not give the same name to one who could clothe the naked and does not? The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry; the coat unused in your closet belongs to the one who needs it; the shoes rotting in your closet belong to the one who has no shoes; the money which you hoard up belongs to the poor . .

A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love. ~ S. Basil the Great, Bishop, Confessor, and Doctor, feast the 14th day of June

I shall not die, but shall live. Departing from the land of the dying, I hope to see the good things of the Lord in the land of the living. ~ S. Edward, King and Martyr, commemoration the 20th day of June, (his last words before dying)

Error never shows itself in its naked reality, in order not to be discovered. On the contrary, it dresses elegantly, so that the unwary may be led to believe that it is more truthful than truth itself. ~ S. Irenaeus, Bishop and Martyr, commemoration the 28th day of June

The seeking of Jesus Christ, and the quest for chivalry combined, lead directly to one place only: Anglican-Catholicism. Courage, honor, courtesy, justice, and a readiness to help and defend the weak and the poor. Welcome to the Anglican Catholic Church. ~ Father Timothy Butler
