Spiritual Tidbits for May from Father Tim

May has arrived and with it a continuation of the Eastertide Season. April is now behind us and full of beautiful memories. We had a very successful Holy Week and every service was exceptionally attended. It is very inspiring for a priest when attendance is good, not just on Easter Sunday, but even at the weekday services. And to make April even more special, we had five beautiful children complete all class material and celebrate their First Communion. It was a beautiful Good Shepherd Sunday — the kind dreams are made of. Time passes quickly and before you know it they will be receiving Confirmation from the Bishop. In my Homily for Good Shepherd Sunday I mentioned a “Transfiguration of Events”. A slowing down of the succession of time, and the transcendent insertion from the Eternal Real [God] of abiding duration at a particular event. The world and those of the world are always rushing by and promoting time annihilation. So be it. Let them rush headlong to the judgment seat of the one true God they deny or ignore. We can only pray they will accept Christ before it is too late. For those of us who embrace Holy Church, and in the world, our God walks among us every day; we meet Him in abiding duration every day, and we have no need to rush anywhere. I hope and pray your May contains a multitude of event transfiguration’s. May they all be as beautiful and moving as our First Communion on Good Shepherd Sunday. Cherish the abiding duration. ~ Father Tim

Especially four ways among the many in which the human creature experiences the fact of God, and God is self-disclosed to men, stand out before us.
First, in History we find the Supernatural penetrating Process and revealed through it.
Next, in Incarnation—and, depending from this, in the fact of sanctity—we find the Supernatural penetrating Personality and revealed through it.
Thirdly, in Sacraments and Symbols we find the Supernatural penetrating created Things, and revealed to the soul through the channels of sense.
Last, in Prayer we find the Supernatural in immediate contact with created spirit; self-revealed and self-active within the Individual Soul.

May Spirituality Class

Please join us on after Holy Mass on the 21st of May as we discuss the Roots of Christian Mysticism. This month we will look at the Victorines – Hugo and Richard of St Victor. All devout Christians must look into their own hearts and first determine who they are, and how their own identities relate to Jesus the Christ as Saviour, Messiah, Man and God. If Jesus were to ask you, “Who do you say I am?”, what would you answer? How seriously do you take this question? Your answer will bring forward how well you actually know yourself.

Be assured that the Word is the nature of all things. The Son represents the world before God as High Priest, Intercessor, and Paraclete. He is the “divine Angel” that guides us; He is the “bread of God,” the “dew of the soul,” the “convincer of sin”: no evil can touch the soul in which He dwells: He is the eternal image of the Father, and we, who are not yet fit to be called sons of God, may call ourselves His sons. ~ John Scotus Eriugena

Psalm-Children

A big thank you to all parishioners for helping Artie, Elyse, Grace, Lilly, and Max have a beautiful day as they received First Holy Communion. They and the other children will need your support and prayers over the years. This month will wrap up our weekly lessons before heading into a more relaxed summer schedule. May 7 Judie Boughner will cover the Ascension of Christ, May 21 Savannah Butler will cover the Descent of the Holy Spirit, and May 28 Mary Matias Akhtar will cover The Holy Trinity. We will not be meeting on Mother’s Day which is May 14 so all the kids can have more time to spoil their moms with hugs and kisses. Keep an ear out for our summer plans. If you want to get involved or have a service project you are interested in having the children help with, please see me. We will continue the Prayer Cross, so if you have intentions you’d like the children to pray for, please write them down and give them to one of the teachers or e-mail me. The Psalm Children Ministry aims to provide religious education and encourage service through a combination of lessons, crafts, and activities. All children ages 2-12 are encouraged to attend. ~ Mary Matias Akhtar

ACW Grill Fundraiser

Our Grill Fundraiser is just around the corner! Start spreading the word to family and friends to come and join us on Saturday, 5/20. We had a wonderful turn out last year and look forward to another great event!  We need your help to make this a success: We are planning to have a raffle like we did last year so we are looking for donations of gift baskets, homemade goods, etc… to offer up. We are also going to need donations of 12 packs of drinks to go with the meals. We got EXCELLENT donations last year with drinks so let’s keep that tradition going! Finally, we will be posting a sign up sheet (probably post it on Sunday May 7th) regarding dessert donations. Part of the draw of the event is our advertising of homemade desserts so please dust off those cookbooks and bring in a yummy dessert for our guests.

~ Thanks…….Jennifer Cook
