Spirit of the Eagle – July 2015

Spiritual Tidbits for July from Father Tim

Summer 2015 is now in full swing! Everyone will hopefully have time for vacations, family outings, and summer fun. Every moment, in the end, will be considered precious. The following from Ann Voskamp speaks volumes: “I have lived pain, and my life can tell: I only deepen the wound of the world when I neglect to give thanks the heavy perfume of wild roses in early July, and the song of crickets on summer humid nights, and the rivers that run, and the stars that rise, and the rain that falls, and all the good things that a good God gives.” Accepting Jesus Christ into your life every moment (behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation – 2 Cor 6:2) is a holy, life changing event, and something to be eternally thankful for. Tell everyone you know who does not have a relationship with Christ what you are thankful for. “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (1 Thess 5:18).” I hope and pray your July is full of happiness, hope, and thankfulness.

July Spirituality Class

Please join us on the 26th of July after Mass as we will begin discussing Revenge verses Forgiveness, Redemption, Forgiveness verses The Law, Love, Hard-Work and Integrity verses Playing the System, and finally Freedom (the essence of the 4th of July). How do all these relate to us in our own lives? How do our choices guide us to avoid vice and achieve virtue? How are we to use the Bible, the Holy Saints and Martyrs, the Church Fathers, the Apostles, and — most importantly — the life of Christ to help us in our every day journey back toward God? As a backdrop we will also consider the story line in Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables. Please come and bring a family member or friend!!!

Here beginneth the 4th verse of the 19th chapter of the Gospel of St. Matthew: And He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder. ~ Jesus the Christ, God Incarnate, Word of God, Savior, Truth, Lord of the Harvest, Lord of Glory, Leader and Commander, Lawgiver, King of Kings, Judge of Israel, I AM, Holy One, Head of The Church, Gatherer, First and Last, Creator, Captain of Salvation, Author of Eternal Salvation, Alpha and Omega.

“Finite as we are, lost though we seem to be in the woods or in the wide air’s wilderness, in this world of time and chance, we have still, like the strayed animals or like migrating birds, our homing instinct. . . . We seek. That is a fact. We seek a city still out of sight. In the contrast with this goal, we live. But if this be so, then already we possess something of Being even in our finite seeking. For the readiness to seek is already something of an attainment, even if a poor one.” ~ Josiah Royce, The World and the Individual

The Children Ministry is canceled in the month of July. Savannah will need to leave immediately after Mass on the 12th of July so she can attend the St. Michael Camp and Conference in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. We will resume the Children Ministry in August.

Thank You

The Butler family would like to thank all the Saint John Saints who contributed time, gifts, and prayers to Savannah’s Graduation Party and Asbury University Church Match. Your love and generosity continue to set Godly examples for those who are just beginning their own journey in life. You give a legacy to them that will be passed down to all those who, through contact with them, will come after. Your charity has touched Savannah, who will in turn touch many. God bless you. ~ Father Tim, Janet, Savannah, Brittany, Joel, and Baby Girl Sams
